Not good for fine dust ...
I bought this vaccum for our office and it gets used maybe 1-2 a week. I guess that compared to a home environment, an office environment has more dirt, dust and fine particles depending on the number of people that trudge through the office on a daily basis. This vaccum got good reviews from my fellow Amazon reviewers so I bought it. The 1st one I got worked fine the first time but on the second time, a small black dust cloud started to escape from the bottom of the bagless canister. Thinking that it was a gasket issue, I emptied the canister and wiped it down with a wet towel. Then turned it on and it was good for the rest of the vacuum. But, on the third time, the same thing happened. I contacted Amazon and returned the unit (but I had to pay freight back). I thought it might have been a lemon so I had it replaced instead of refunded. The exact same thing happened the second time after we started using the new vacuum. Knowing that it was now a real problem, I called Bissell and got a call center in India. After spending 60 minutes trying to describe the problem, the phone technician told me that there are 3 filters on this model and that the dust I was vacuuming was "too fine" and it was plugging the filters. She advised me to clean the filters (1 filter is the disposable kind and 2 filters are the wash under water kind) after EVERY USE. It's an office vacuum. It's not like I'm vacuuming in a coal mine where there are fine dust particles. I can't believe its normal to wash a vacuum's filters after EVERY USE. But, I guess I have no choice but to do this. So, if you have to vacuum a place that has dust that is "too fine" (what dust isn't fine?), I wouldn't recommend this particular vacuum. It's too much work to maintain and clean after each use. On a side not, I have a Hoover bagless vacuum at home and it's never given me problems. I vacuum, dump the contents out and then put it away until the next week. I think I clean it's filter maybe 1-2 times a year but never after every use. UPDATE (08-21-13): I've given up. I can't take it anymore. I'm buying a Dyson to replace this Bissell. My other vacuum at home is an 8-year old Dyson and it's still going strong. If I divide the price I paid for the Dyson by the number of years I've used it, it works out to be much better than this Bissell. You win, Bissell.
