Excellent choice
I was interested in purchasing a modem because I have to pay $10 a month for Comcast xfinity service if I use their box. After 10 months this unit will already pay for itself.
I started out buying a refurbished Aris unit that was supposedly compatible. That's two hours of my life that I'll never get back. The unit didn't work so I decided to buy new and went with this unit based on the reviews.
Within 15 minutes I was online. I opened the box, unplugged my current router/wifi unit, plugged this one in, logged onto the router (instructions on how to were included) and called Xfinity. Calling Xfinity was what took the longest as they had to activate it on their end. I waited about 10 minutes for my new modem to communicate with Comcast and then boom it was working.
Dare I say that it's actually faster than the previous modem? Maybe I"m just excited about saving $10/month. I highly recommend this unit. Our apartment is 1100 square feet and we keep the modem in a separate room. Internet is crisp and fast.

2 years in and this thing stops working. I went to my cable company and used their router for a day to test and see if my router was the issue. Plug theirs in and boom, normal wifi speeds. I contacted Netgear to see what help they could offer only to be informed that it would be AT LEAST a $90 charge. So yeah, its a cheap modem in the beginning but that all depends on how long it lasts. Their tech support is only included in the first 90 days so if you have issues after that you're looking at a charge that's MORE THAN THE COST OF THE ROUTER just to fix it. I can't recommend a company that doesn't stand behind their product.
