Paperport has long been in decline, with Nuance milking the user base with increasingly useless upgrades, compounded by terrible support. That's the bad news. The good news is that there is now a viable alternative - Lucion Filecenter. Great feature set, excellent support. Instead of upgrading I've uninstalled Paperport and so the one positive thing I can say about Paperport 14 is that it prompted me to investigate alternatives. Update: after a year or so, Lucion Filecenter is going strong and clearly better than Paperport. Update: after couple of years, and listening to user feedback, Lucion has improved their product such that it is now simply perfect. And the responsiveness of their support, one the rare occasions that it's required, is amazing.
