I'm genuinely amazed by this product. Previously, I hadn't the faintest idea that a trash can could so completely fail at being a trash can. And in this case, we're led to believe that this trash can (hereby referred to as "TC") is actually better than "normal" TCs. It's fingerprint-proof, has a removable inner bucket, comes with a 10 year warranty, etc. Admittedly, that all sounds great—but in reality you'll be shelling out $19.99 just to own a huge disappointment. Now, you might think that with such bold statements about how terrible this thing is, I must have a whole list of grievances—but I only have one: The core part of this TC that allows it to be used as a TC is a piece of garbage (heh). That is, the foot pedal. The food pedal, when stepped on, is meant to open the lid of the TC. Without the foot pedal, you have a stainless steel, capped cylinder that isn't good for much of anything. And here's the fun part: technically, the pedal DOES actually work! When you step on it, it does indeed open the lid of the TC. So you're probably wondering, "Then what's the problem?". Well, the problem is that this TC clangs and nearly flips over every time you use the foot pedal. It will, eventually, "walk" its way around your bathroom - into walls/cabinets, behind the toilet, etc., as if it has a mind of its own and its only instincts are to make clanging noises and escape. While I can't say I particularly blame this hypothetically sentient TC (after all, you are subjecting it to hold all your used Q-tips and other grossness for an indefinite period of time), I would say to it: "Look, pal. I paid $19.99 for you. I could have bought one of your kind for a few bucks, but you looked all distinguished in your stainless steel, with a lid to conceal all that's inside, and a wonderfully convenient foot pedal, so I chose YOU over all the others—despite costing twice as much. And you were labeled 'Amazon's Choice'! So I can't have you waltzing around my bathroom, literally scaring puppies with your unpredictable movements and sounds." So, back to Amazon it goes. On the bright side, I gained a bit of confidence thanks to this adventure. I was able to look at this product, put out by a household name like simplehuman, and say that I—someone who has never worked in the exciting industry of Trash Can Design—could have created a significantly better TC using only whatever miscellaneous items happen to be hidden beneath the sofa. In the meantime, though, I'll be using the contents of my wallet to produce a TC that actually works, and will be delivered to my doorstep in only 2 days. And this time, I'll be sure to read the reviews.
