I can hear and feel a loud and very annoying low pitched vibration from this 8TB WD My Book drive as it sits (vertically) on my desk. It's not subtle but very noticeable. I have owned several external 3.5" USB hard disks in the past and this My Book is unacceptable. I sent it back for a refund and will be searching for a better alternative. Update: I just received my Western Digital 8TB EASYSTORE EXTERNAL HDD (WDBCKA0080HBK-NESN) that costs more and is rumored to use higher quality WD Red NAS drives. The EASYSTORE is also sitting on my desk vertically and it is whisper quiet. For me the WD EASYSTORE is well worth the additional cost.
