The LILLEbaby Essentials offers more at almost half the price
I was really disappointed in this baby carrier. After hearing so much about Tula for years I finally decided to give it a try, and I was not impressed. A few of the things I didn't like about it:
-Lack of shoulder padding. I have a pretty heavy baby, and I would have liked some more padding on my shoulders.
-Not good for smaller babies. I have a very large 9 month old, but I felt like he was frustrated that he couldn't look around very well. I also live in Arizona, and with a younger baby the Tula requires an infant insert which makes babywearing even hotter.
-The chest/back clip is nearly impossible to buckle. I don't know why, but no matter how I adjusted it, it took lots of painful maneuvering to get it buckled.
-Lack of 2 way adjustable straps. This is a small feature that makes a big difference. I've gotten used to them on the LILLEbaby, and not having them makes adjusting the shoulder straps a lot harder. The straps on the LILLEbaby Essentials also unbuckle, allowing you to cross the straps on your back and do a hip carry.
-Small pocket and nowhere to store the hood. The Tula has a very small pocket placed on the waistband (with Velcro, which I hate). It could fit your phone, but not much else. My LILLEbaby Essentials has a large pocket that I can put several necessities in, I almost never bring my diaper bag in with me. It also has a nice pocket for storing the hood. On the Tula I didn't like having the hood just flopping around.
I found the Tula to be almost exactly like the LILLEbaby Essentials, which is a lot more affordable at almost half the price ($149 vs $89.99). The Essentials also has some great features that the Tula does not (I added some pictures to show the similarities and differences). So although the Tula is a safe ergonomic carrier, I can't really say it's worth the money when there's a comparable, even better option, for much less.
