Cheap Plastic Parts, Terrible Warranty and Customer Service
After a lot of research, I bought this microwave thinking it would be stylish and durable. I've owned other Cuisinart appliances and have found them to be generally reliable and well made. Unfortunately, this microwave is not. I bought this microwave a year ago, and immediately noticed that the button that opens the door was plastic and seemed a little cheaply made, but the microwave worked ok. It was not as powerful and took longer to heat foods than my previous cheapo GE microwave of the same wattage, but I was ok with that. A week ago, I pushed the button on the microwave to open the door and the door didn't open. The door latch would not disengage. Now the microwave was unusable. I called customer service and was informed that yes, my microwave was under warranty, and "Congratulations!" I could pay to have it shipped to a facility in New Jersey and would then get to pay to have it repaired at my own expense. When I asked why the shipping and repairs weren't covered, the customer service agent couldn't tell me. When I asked to have it replaced, as it was obviously an issue with a defective part, the customer service agent said that they wouldn't do that, that they could repair it instead but that it was my responsibility to pay for everything. Finally, when I asked approximately how much it would cost to pay to ship a 41 lb. microwave both ways in addition to the repair fee, the customer service said he couldn't guess, and obviously didn't care to help. I am beyond angry that I wasted nearly $300 and my time on this microwave. I hate to toss it in the landfill, but I'm not going to invest another $200 in shipping costs + whatever it costs to repair it just to have to deal with such a worthless warranty again down the road. Buyer beware.
