Save the grief. There are better options.
Review updated April 2015 Time has not been kind to the Amazon Fire Phone. After 6 months, there have not been any updates to its FireOS based on already dated Android Jellybean 4.2.2. The restrictive FireOS is frustrating and limiting. I have done all modifications possible, including enabling a custom launcher, Google Play Store, Google Apps, and a third-party keyboard. Picking up an LG L70 new for under $100 is a breath of fresh air in comparison. After 6 months of use, the only high end qualities that you'll appreciate are the camera, stereo speakers, and fast charging. Otherwise, it is a brick with a silly 3D perspective feature that is more novelty than anything else. If Amazon at least showed they were trying to improve the experience I'd say you could bear with it, but why?? There are better options for under $200. The best phone under $200 is a refurbished/used LG G2. It has the same Snapdragon 800 processor and 32GB storage, with a larger and higher density screen, a notification light, knock code, and comparable or superior 13MP camera in a lighter package. The phone can be rooted and bootloader unlocked, so it can be loaded with custom ROMs and applications.
