New Device a Disappointment
My husband and I have been traveling for over 20 years. We now have a Class A 35 foot RV. Since our retirement in 2011 we have traveled around the U.S. We previously had a Rand McNally 7710 which had electrical issues and left us stranded a couple of times but otherwise it did its job. Since we were informed that the 7710 could not be repaired we purchased the new RVND 7730 LM RV GPS. We had it shipped to our next destination so we could use it for the remainder of our trip which involves over an additional 1,000 miles. We had a short two hour trip from one destination to the next so we thought we would enjoy using our new GPS. Not so!! It was the worst two hours of our entire journey. The worst part was its inability to recalculate. We ran into road construction detour and the GPS kept sending us in a loop to the same detour. When we followed the detour signs the GPS did not recalculate. Yes we did have it on automatic recalculate. We had a full week in our new destination so we thought we must need to learn the new features of the 7730 even though many were the same as the 7710 that we used for two years. Our next leg of the journey is a 6 hour trip from CT to MD. We do not want to go through New York even though that is the route the GPS has chosen. We prefer to take a longer route that avoids major cities as much as possible. We cannot get the device to accept our choices. I have re checked the settings to make sure they are all correct. We used the trip maker map to plot our choices and then download it to the GPS. Using the trip maker on the computer is a challenge in itself. We have spent hours and hours trying to plot our trip and have run into numerous problems. When the map is sent to the GPS it will only go to each waypoint one at a time. Then it will go to the next after it reaches the first. So, you can't check the accuracy of the trip. When I called Rand McNally support I was told by the young man that, "It is impossible." "When you plan your trip on tripmaker it does not go to the device the way you plan it and it cannot be done." When I asked to talk to a supervisor his response was, "It won't do you any good, you are wasting your time." I finally convinced him to connect me to a supervisor and he was at least more hopeful but he too was not aware of many of the features. I am totally frustrated and disappointed with this product. I am formally a loyal fan of Rand McNally but this experience has left me bewildered and disappointed.
