Unusable if you want to keep yourself private, missing features
I have had 4 Onkyo receivers and loved them all. The last receiver I was using was an NR676 in a 5.2.2 setup and I had a couple extra Atmos speakers, so I bought this to upgrade to 5.2.4. While setting it up, it asked if it could phone home to send back use data. I have too many products that want to send back data, so I hit decline. I upgraded to the latest firmware and had everything ready to go. Recently I have been having some home networking issues where my Wi-Fi has been disconnecting every 15 minutes or so. Every time the receiver loses connection and then reconnects, it takes over the screen telling me that the receiver supports Google Chromecast (which would send data to Google, something else I don't want to do), requiring me to pick up the remote to click OK, then it once again asks if it is OK to send data to Onkyo's servers. While watching The Martian this happened 14 times. To keep this from happening I had to turn off the network connection, which disables half the functionality of this device just so I can watch movies uninterrupted.
The box, a giant sticker on the front of the receiver, the Amazon page to buy the receiver and information on the Onkyo web site all say that this device has "Amazon Music, Spotify, TIDAL, Deezer, Pandora, and TuneIn are all baked in, making entertainment selection easy using Onkyo Controller." I use Amazon Music so it was a feature I was planning on using. I can enable tunein, Pandora, Spotify and the others, but Amazon Music is no where to be found on the device. I tried to use the Onkyo Controller app (which repeatedly tries to enable Chromecast), but Amazon music is not available there, either.
It concerns me that they are placing that much emphasis on collecting my data that they think it is OK to interrupt the primary functionality of the receiver - watching movies, listening to music, and so on to get to that data. Then there are features that they prominently advertise are missing. My 5.2.4 setup with this device sounds great but after less than a week of nothing but problems, I am quickly losing my patience.
