I used to be so upset with SSD drives until I started using the 1TB Samsung 850 Pro (not the 840 EVO)
Update Feb 2017 - So, as noted in my September 2016 update below, I tried using an SSD drive again, this time a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro. It has been in my desktop for many months now and is working perfectly without a hitch! I guess you might say I've finally returned home....
Initial Review: The SSD drives are blazingly fast. That is what has motivated me to purchase one on three separate occasions. My first was a Crucial 512MB, which suffered a total unrecoverable crash a few weeks later. My second was a Samsung 840 Pro Series 512MB which has worked for several months without a problem. Pleased with this success, I purchased the new Samsung 840 Series 1TB drive. I replaced the Samsung 512GB in my desktop with the Samsung 1TB, planning to move the 512GB into my laptop. A little voice in my head said "hold off on installing the 512GB in the laptop. See how the 1TB works and save the 512GB as a 'recovery' drive if needed". I'm glad I listened. Three weeks after I installed the Samsung 1TB into the desktop, it suffered an unrecoverable crash. Tried everything to repair/restore the lost information but was unable to do so. Important files GONE.
I've almost never had a problem with my standard hard disk drives. Slow, yes, but at least they were RELIABLE. I'm going back to them and am writing off the SSDs as a nightmare.
If you are backing up your SSD on a daily basis, or don't store anything of value on your SSD, by all means keep it. I really, really wanted the SSDs to work. Now, however, I'm DONE with them.
I was using the SSDs on a Gateway computer running an Intel Core i5 processor, 6GB RAM, and a EVGA GTX660 video card.
Follow-up note: I find it interesting that so many people rate a negative review about a product as 'not helpful'. There is a long list of stories on the web about these SSD crashes. When they do happen, they are frequently unrecoverable. So, consider this review just a warning: backup, backup, backup.
Follow-up note (September, 2016): Well, I thought I would try using an SSD drive again after a long period of avoidance based on my bad experience. I installed a Samsung 850 PRO 1TB drive last month. Installation and transfer of data to the new drive was simple. The drive is working without problems to date.
