At first I thought the terrible smell was the food product that I was cooking in this pan. Then, after heating up different food, I realized that the smell was coming from the handle of the pan, which causes a big stink, literally, when used on a gas stove top. Seems that the handle is not made of proper heat-resistant material (see photo). Disappointed and surprised in this quality from Farberware because I have many older Farberware stainless steel pans that I've used for a couple of decades.
