It's just not for me.
I typically do not like leaving negative feedback and if I feel I have to then I write nothing at all...I like to give the seller and the product a chance (other people may like it and that's fine). But in this case I decided to write a review because I was so disappointed in this product after spending hours and days reading EVERY single review written on it (there are 275 reviews on Amazon alone for this product)! I watched every video, googled every review, and thoroughly researched this product before purchasing it. I found that most of the video reviews on this were done on men and women and girls with semi-straight hair. Only a couple of them had hair similar to mine (wavy, full of body, with a propensity for frizziness and fluffiness in especially humid weather). It took me years to find the perfect flat iron...I use Maxi-Glide. The company stopped making it, or rather changed the design and so I hunted ebay for a replacement for my older one and got it. I love the wide plates, the comb teeth on one plate, and perfect adjustable heat settings.
I was amazed when I saw this Apalus Brush hair straightener on Amazon but was indeed skeptical. Well, a long story short, after watching the massive amounts of videos and reviews on it, I purchased it. I was in my glory thinking that I could get my hair straightened in 10 minutes. It usually takes me a long 45 minutes to one hour...it's definitely burdensome and tiring. I thought WOW a miracle brush! It has a fairly wide surface area but I didn't see how it could straighten hair so fast without tension and another compression plate (same concept as a regular iron on an ironing board...you need both to get the wrinkles out, flat and seamless). I thought to try it anyway so I ordered it. I was excited to open the box when it came and couldn't wait to save gads and gads of time on straightening my hair (which I do twice a week). What a massive let down! I tried, I really did, but this Apalus brush is horrible! Here is why: 1. The controls on the side are ill-placed; ridiculous really, you hit them easily with your finger when you hold the brush...I'm right-handed...and you inadvertently change the settings, which is a royal pain. 2. You can burn your hands very easily (I did) because there is no safe area on the upper brush as you hold it and sometimes touch that area. 3. To overcome number one and two, you can move your hand farther down the stem of the brush while using it but then you lose your mechanical advantage by weakening the hold and the brush becomes difficult to handle. 4. The rubber tips are awful and they grab and catch the hair and easily snarl it. 5. You have to pre-brush your hair before using this item, which is a huge time waster...even when you brush it beforehand you still get tangled in the Apalus brush rubber tips. 5. The Apalus brush does not straighten the ends of the hair since it loses tension by the time it gets there. 6. The Apalus brush does not fully flatten or straighten hair, it maintains a fluff factor, which becomes frizz as the day goes on. When I tried to fix it with my regular iron, I got it flatter and straighter but the texture was weird and there was a fuzziness to it that didn't go away until the next wash. 7. Not enough surface area on the brush means I had to do hair in smaller sections than usual. 8. The brush smells like some kind of factory type heated machine or something; it stays in the hair, too.
While, overall, I love the simple "hairbrush to straighten hair" concept, this product falls flat in that area (no pun intended). My suggestions to remedy the issues with this brush are as follows: 1. Make the brush square instead of oval to increase the surface and straightening area. 2. Make the tips ceramic instead of rubber. 3. Move the controls from the side of the brush to the upper or lower part of the handle. 3. Design a small lip on the back of the brush head so it can be rested on a table top while heated and it won't burn anything; this would also help a person to avoid hitting the hot flat part. 4. Provide an optional bottom plate with an arm that is removable so the brush can be used as either a brush alone (great for on-the-go situations) or as a brush with a flat plate for better flattening and straightening.
I am sorry to say that I am returning this brush for a full refund. I'll stick with my Maxi-Glide for now, and if a better version of that comes along then I'm all in.
Since I like to leave a situation with something positive I will say this about the Apalus brush: I love the pink color and the sort of vintage look it has about it. It makes it sort of nostalgic and gives it a personal beauty touch. It almost makes one feel as if they are special just to own it.
Have a very beautiful day! :)
