★★☆☆☆
A dull book about a dull man.
I didn't like the author's determination to make Charles the victim of the terrible marriage to Diana. He was an adult. Diana was a teenager. She was used/sacrificed by Charles and his parents. Charles was not in love with her. ("Whatever in love means," as he so crudely put it when they were engaged.) He was in love with Camilla, but he was too chicken to stand up to his parents and refuse to marry/enslave Diana. Diana ended up DEAD. Convenient for the royal family. I wonder if Charles will restore her Royal Highness title if/when he becomes monarch. If he fails to do so, will William do so when he becomes king? Is Charles to blame for being dull and spoiled? No. He's a prince. How could he not be entitled (literally), dull, and spoiled? His sons seem to be less dull and spoiled, so he hasn't failed utterly. To the commenter (Clara?) who thinks there's a rule against Camilla becoming queen? There's not, and she will, if she and Charles live that long. Good review of this dull book about a dull man in this week's New Yorker.
