I have 2 cream-colored Frenchies. I feed them raw, do not feed commercial treats and do everything you are "supposed" to do to prevent dogs from getting allergies. However, both developed allergies this year. The older one started chewing his front paws which were getting red between the toes. The puppy had a few raised dots on his armpits and itched/licked his body a LOT. I took them to the vet who diagnosed them as having allergies and gave me Apoquel for the larger and some Chlorhexidine/Ketoconazole wipes for his paws. For the puppy he suggested Zyrtec, but I decided that I would ignore his suggestions and go the natural route. I bought Natural Dog Company Skin Soother based on the glowing reviews. I put some on both in a small area, waited a few hours and saw no reaction so I happily slathered it all over them. It smelled great and they seemed fine. Still itching and chewing but I had hope! I applied the balm again later before bed and looked forward to their healing and relief. However, by morning, both dogs developed severe allergic reactions anywhere the product was applied. The older dogs feet were BRIGHT red all the way up his forearms. He had chewed hair off the sides of his feet. The puppy's once tiny spots spread out ALL over his chest and legs and turned into huge angry red circles of raised skin. He looked like he had a terrible fungal infection or disease. He was itching so furiously he broke skin and was bleeding by mid day all over his belly. When I touched him he cried and growled. I was beside myself, called the vet and brought them both in, again. This time I listened to the vet. He was sympathetic to me trying a natural method and didn't scold me at least. He put them both on Apoquel but now they also both needed antibiotics for the open wounds. I won't even mention the amount of money I had to spend to correct this damage. And I HATE antibiotics. Had I just listed to the vet a few days before, I would only have had to use Apoquel. Within a day on the medications, the inflammation receded and now a couple of days later, they look almost normal. They are both sleeping at night and not chewing on themselves. I don't say that medication is always the answer, but I sincerely urge you to spot test this product in a very very small area multiple times over 24 hours to see what happens. Do not over zealously apply to large areas without doing so!!!!
