I own my own residential housekeeping business. I have been buying the Oreck commercial XL upright for 12 years. 2 vacuums, once a year. Ordered these on Feb 1st, took me a few days to unpack and assemble. Started using them. A few days in, machine 1 burns a belt. Ok, maybe old belt. Another few days, machine 2 burns a belt. Maybe same thing. Next week, machine 2 burns another belt. Honestly, dont have time to take whole thing apart at work so grab the #1. Next week, #1 burns another belt. Also at some point both machines had the screws that holds the handle vibrate loose no matter how many times I tightened them. Finally wrapped with tape to keep it from moving. Now, #2 has been taken apart, checked brush and fan, nothing is stuck, new belt. Using it and all of a sudden brush roll stops rolling. Whines when on and I cant turn it by hand when off. Dont have a star screwdriver on hand at work to take apart. So grab #1, finish that house. Next house, that one starts squeaking. Give up, throw that one in vehicle, finish house with owners vac. Get home, take both apart and am thoroughly pissed off at what I find. The end of the brush roll and wheel for the belt have somehow melted and ground themselves together, explaining why roll will not turn at all. #1 that was squeaking has chunks of plastic wedged in end of roll that look like same problem is beginning. I have never had so many problems with an Oreck before in my life. The store in my area closed so this was the first time I bought online. Will not do that again. I don't know if I was sent junk machines or if the quality has gone down the tubes. I have machines I purchased 5 years ago, used for the year and kept at home to use. With a few maintenance parts, they are still running well. They are going to be my work vacuums now as I research other brands. So disappointed in Oreck. And of course my return time just ran out so these will go right in the garbage.
