It doesn't leak, but you're better off learning how to use a Boston Shaker.
Normally, I'm a pretty big fan of OXO products - and when I was getting into cocktail making, it seemed likely that (as always) the OXO shaker would be a masterpiece of form and function. If you're looking to make very basic cocktails that don't include muddled fruit, herbs or pulpy juices - this just might be the shaker for you! If you have interest in a tool that will serve you no matter what (shaken) cocktail you choose to make - this isn't it.
The biggest issue with this shaker is the straining mechanism - it clogs... easily. You know those tiny, imperceptibly small shards of ice from a properly shaken cocktail? Those will clog the mechanism. Fresh lime juice? That will clog the mechanism. You'd be incredibly lucky to get out half of your drink if it contains any fruit juice, muddled herbs or muddled fruit. Worse yet - the size doesn't allow for the use of a Hawthorn strainer - making it an overpriced, totally unusable shaker. For the same price I bought "the best" Boston Shaker on the market AND a wonderful OXO Hawthorn strainer. Save your money, get more out of your drink.
