★★☆☆☆
Will-destroying assembly required but actually quite comfortable.
I purchased the BOSS drafting stool to go with my standing desk. I know what you're saying, "Why do you need a chair for your standing desk?" but nobody is perfect.
On Thursday I was delighted to see that my new chair had arrived! Excitement quickly turned to dismay when I noticed the state of the box: crudely taped shut and with several holes. I considered this might be the fault of the shipping company but upon opening the box I quickly dismissed this idea. BOSS's idea of packing could be generously described as throwing a bunch of s*** into a box.
I was willing to look past the packing however, since, against all odds, my chair appeared to have arrived undamaged. And despite some questionable materials choices, the chair did appear quite solid as I began putting it together.
I quickly found myself at the final step, attaching the mount to the seat. This seemed quite simple except that I initially could not find the screws. I searched through the mangled wreckage that was BOSS's packaging until I finally spotted the scews: already inserted into the seat.
An odd choice certainly, but, I thought, of little consequence. I would just have to unscrew them from the seat before screwing them back in, mount in place. Putting my screwdriver to the screw I found that it would not budge, and neither it seems, would the other three.
Frustrated I searched the arcane directions for some clue as to what I was doing wrong. When the strange hieroglyphics offered to answer, I tried the screw again and with much straining I found I was able to slightly turn one.
Delighted, I threw myself into my task. A few hours, a can of WD 40, two screwdrivers, lots of cursing and grunting, heaving and twisting, and, I'll admit, a little bit of crying later, I had freed two of the four screws. The other two would require more leverage than I had. So I spent $20 to purchase a Maxcraft Ratchet Driver and a Titan Bit Set to get at the final two screws. One week later, new tools in hand, I finally managed to assemble my drafting stool.
In the end, despite being both designed and manufactured by baboons, the chair is quire comfortable. C-
