Absolute Junk
Update 09/29/20. After using for over a year, these cameras and this system is JUNK. If you like junk, buy this system. System frequently goes offline. Even when "online" cams often miss motion/recording. If you want to do a live view, it can take over 10 seconds to show up, if it does at all. This was a huge waste of money. Amazon and Blink should be ashamed. They should pull this product off the market and be recalling every single camera/system to issue refunds. I cannot believe their overall star reviews are as good as they are, I'm guessing a lot of ignorant people rating high, but don't be fooled, this system is JUNK, unreliable, and just an extremely bad product. [Older Review] I'm taking this down to 1 star. In the past year Blink has not brought any new features to the cams/app.. Except a dark mode for the app. And while decided to focus all this attention to the dark mode, the change between that and a recent module update has made these cams junk. In the past year, no new needed features added, but they somehow screwed up what little features they did have. The module goes offline frequently so nothing records until you unplug and plug back in. It is so bad that I've connected the module to a smart plug and have added routines to power off/on 4 times a day. The new app is horrible. It takes forever to view a cam, if you are lucky enough not to get an error first. Arming/disarming is ridiculous.. And still image shots frequently do not work. Avoid buying. I am no longer happy about this purchase. [EVEN older review] I am updating my review to 4 stars. The Blink team put some test firmware on my devices, and I have not had any issues with the cams. They are recording motion very well, and are very consistent. These are acting exactly as I would expect, and would recommend these cams. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is due to a few features they should have in the app. I have a good size list. Most would be nice to haves. The 2 Must Haves for me to take this to 5 stars are: 1. I want the ability to schedule motion detection for each individual cam, so during the course of a day I can set some cams to be active while others are inactive. 2. I want the ability to set motion detection notifications for each individual cam, so for example, I can set a cam located at the front door to give me a motion detection notification, but the back door cam will not give me a motion detection notification. In a nutshell, from originally giving this 2 stars (as you'll see why in old review below), I am now up to 4 stars. Add those 2 features above, and it becomes a 5 star product for me. [OLDEST Review] We installed 3 XT2s and 1 XT. The Good: 1. The setup was extremely easy. 2. I've seen some posts regarding WiFi and poor connection distance. I'm not having any issues. As a matter of fact, as you can see the picture I posted, I have an XT2 mounted on a Pine Tree in my yard that is about 75 feet away from the nearest access point (I use Velop mesh), no problems. The others are not as far away, but at least 30' away. While I can't say anything against those complaining of connectivity, all I can say is we are having no problems with connectivity, even from the cam 75' away. . The Bad: 1. The motion detection is OK, not great. One big bug is it picks up moving shadows and thinks it is motion. It is either too sensitive or if you dial down the sensitivity it is useless. 2. You can't set a schedule for individual cams to arm/disarm which is ridiculous. 3. You can't set notifications for individual cams. If you want a notification for the front door cam but not for your other cams, you're out of luck. The Ugly: 1.. The first 5 days, the cams seemed to pick up motion fine and record fine. In the last day, it seems like the blink servers are failing because we had no events on any of the 4 cameras overnight, and partially today. The devices have full bars for Wi-Fi and connection the the module. My home Wi-Fi is excellent and we have had no outages. Clearly either blink servers are having issues or there is a problem with the module communicating with the blink servers. [Update 06/02/19. The fix was to delete the Cam and re-add. The problem is today another Cam was detecting motion, but did not record any clips at all. I deleted the Cam and re-added, which fixed the problem. However, this is a serious problem and needs to be fixed ASAP because I guarantee this will happen again]. 2. [Update 06/04/19] Yesterday the cameras have been doing 1 of 2 things frequently. Either the clip is cut short, or the camera does not stop recording when motion stops. These are new issues. The big grievance right now that is making me think of returning them is the fact in the past day, while the cams are picking up motion, and the cams connection is good, blink either has servers issues or there is a problem with the module. Right now.. These are not worth the money. I'll give it some more time but if the fundamental reason these cams exist (detect and record motion) continue to have problems, I'm returning them.
