I have cut back on choosing free and Kindle First books as 95 percent that I have chose were mostly terrible.
My Sister's Grave was yet another poorly written story that used the same female character that shows up all too often. A wonder woman who carries a life of secret pain and guilt, anger, dysfunction, just pick the emotional overload and watch her turn herself into a tough chick that can do anything better than any man. She somehow avoides starvation as she never eats, and can walk thru 15 feet of fresh snow with only a stylish windbreaker and a pair of snowshoes she fashioned from some of the rubbish she has not thrown out of the truck due to chasing the killer that makes Charlie Manson seem like the person you would hire to take care of your pregnant sister. Of course ,there is that hot guy who stands around to save her when she ignores the evidence that will get her taken hostage, shot, posioned, etc by the villian. He puts his life in danger but manages to be the hero she has always wanted and needed. Since she has not had sex for 10 years we get to look forward to the explosive quicky they take the time for while surrounding the isolated cave, cabin, van, fish processing plant where they have trapped the killer or...maybe not.
With almost 2000 5 star reviews I am at a loss to explain why I find this type of book so terrible. Is it the overused plot and predictable characters? The tough but fragile herione that is impossible to like? I do believe that readers have been forced fed this fill-in-the-blanks story so often with reviews from famous, actually talented authors who lose my respect when they gush over this dreadfully plotted story.
Free is too high a price for yet another one of these terrible books.
