Could be great...if Netgear actually supported their products after 90 days.
Originally got this product because I have a large house and needed to extend the WiFi. We are bandwidth-hogs here, so it was worth it for us to pay a little extra. Our previous WiFi range-extension system had developed an issue of repeatedly rebooting and leaving us without connectivity for minutes at a time. And since I work from home, depending on a strong connection, this was a dealkiller.
So, bought the Orbi system. Initially, worked great. Then, as with some other reviews state here, the honeymoon was over...the router-device started periodically resetting itself, at which times we would lose connection for a minute or two at a time. Often it would do this 2-3 times back to back.
Installed new firmware a few times, looked online, etc. Sometimes things seemed to improve for awhile, but never for long. In hindsight, it's been pretty random, so I don't actually think any long-term improvement has resulted.
Here's the main point: More than a few customers have this issue. And Netgear doesn't seem to be doing much about it. In particular, their policy is that they will NOT give you customer support if you have had your product over 90 days unless you pay for it.
How on Earth does it make sense that you can buy a product from them for several hundred bucks, then you have an issue that LOTS of other customers have had with the same thing, and in order to help you with it they demand more of your money?
Sorry, Netgear. I gave you 2 stars because when it works, your product is nice...but if you can't be bothered to stand behind it I feel the need to warn everyone out there NOT to buy it. Or anything else you offer until you do something about your user-unfriendly Support policy.
EDIT: Just revised to 1 star, and would give zero if I could. The router has rebooted at least half a dozen times this morning alone. I don't care how great it is when it's working--if it cuts out this much, it's not worth a plug nickel. Shame on Netgear!
