Dull, dull, dull
The story started out with an interesting premise...but then the author apparently didn't know what cool things to do with it. So she didn't.
As others have pointed out, none of the characters are believable or have any depth to them.
The heroine is constantly running off angry/upset/crying. The hero is dull as dirt (but he's always loved her :-) They go to a supposedly perfect world...but everyone gets mad there because everyone else is keeping secrets from everyone. And the secrets? Why were they kept secret? Even the explanations were silly.
Heck, there are waaaaay too many characters...period. Certainly far too many characters for the author to not bother making sure they were all developed sufficiently so that her readers could keep them straight.
I personally got soooo tired of "I've always loved you." "I've always loved you, too." "I've always loved you." "I've always loved you, too." "I've always loved you." "I've always loved you, too." "I've always loved you." "I've always loved you, too." "I've always loved you." "I've always loved you, too." "I've always loved you." "I've always loved you, too."
And, yes...it DOES happen like that. Constantly! It's incredibly annoying.
The string travel was boring, yet the characters couldn't just go from Point A to Point B. No...we always had to hear "details". Frankly, I didn't care what colors they were seeing after the umpteenth trip. And neither will you.
The big finale? It wasn't exciting or meaningful. It just...was.
Well, it had a couple of "twists" with absolutely no setup in the rest of the book for them. (Oh, let me correct that. Just before the grand finale...practically at the end of the book...one of the lesser earth characters notices that Marc looks just like Drake, the bad guy. And no one else could notice this??? In a world where apparently all the other guys have deep dimples and blue eyes, no one who'd ever seen Drake noticed this??? Gimme a break. Even a "Hmmm, Marc looks familiar somehow" would have been better than the nothing we got.
Frankly, all the finale turned out to be was the setup for a series. But, trust me. I won't read any more, even if they're all available for free. I had to force myself to finish *this* book because it got so repetitive and dull.
By the way, I lent this to a teenage neighbor...wondering what she would think of it. She later summed it up perfectly by rolling her eyes and saying "that was stupid." She couldn't even finish it.
There are too many *good* books out there to read to waste time on boring books. Sadly, this is one of the boring ones.
