Definitely Long. Definitely Tedious.
As is stated, to win, you have to own every property on the board. There are three copies of every property. Thankfully, when you buy one, say, St. James, you then own all three St. James spaces subsequently and so on.
The caveat, though, is when someone lands on a deed you own, they can simply pay rent or pay rent plus an extra ten bucks to take the deed from you.
So far, so good. Interesting twist. However. If a property is mortgaged, it can’t be swapped and obviously the player who owns it can not collect rent. Though, money is hardly a factor when the bills can be cut up (literally) to make more should you run too low and there are two go spaces in your travels as well as two free parking spaces. Even if you do manage to go completely broke, you still have to stay in play until you have money once more. So the strategy becomes simply to mortgage non-essential properties (or all of them) so no one can take them from you, meaning the game boils down to just going around the board with seemingly little-to-no stakes, hoping at some point someone will un-mortgage their properties so hopefully you land on it and can take it (though, why would you?)
It being so long wouldn’t be an issue if Monopoly at its core, what makes it so addictive and strategic, wasn’t gone completely.
Play a regular game (which can be long in and of itself) and actually enjoy yourselves.
