Better to eat it on the cob...
I wanted this to work well. I love corn in the summer. I could eat 2 ears every day. And frequently do. So I was pretty excited to get my hands on a corn stripper to have a supply of corn OFF the cob for use in salads, eggs, salsa, etc. However, this particular unit has problems. First off, the cutting ring inside the unit is fixed at 1.25" in diameter. Only one of the four ears of corn I stripped was small enough for this to work properly. On the larger ears, the stripper took off too much "cob" with the corn, which is not attractive, and a little fibrous. Secondly, it is a lot of work getting the corn thru this thing. You can't just "push" the corn thru this thing, you need to twist it to get it to go thru. Consequently, you really need to hold it parallel to the counter or work surface. So the corn falls out all over the place. At one point I figured I must be doing it wrong, so I tried placing the partially stripped end onto the plate so that the corn would fall straight down onto the plate. This proved disastrous as the ear of corn slipped off the plate almost immediately, scattering corn everywhere (much to the dog's delight). (See pics of work area and fibrous corn on plate) The final straw was when my wife said, "It really shouldn't be that hard" and took a knife and simply sliced off the kernels onto a plate. A much simpler, and neater, solution.
