I bought this TV from a big box store and got the extended coverage through Geek Squad. After two months the panel went bad; there is a 3-inch horizontal bar along the bottom of the television that flashes random colors. I contacted for service. My television was inspected by Geek Squad, who confirmed that the panel is bad. I was told I would receive a repair or replacement within 14 days. That was three weeks ago. Geek Squad said it's in the hands of Sharp. Sharp punted to Amtran, the manufacturer. Amtran doesn't trust Geek Squad's assessment and wants to send their own inspector. It goes on and on. Obviously Sharp does not stand behind their product.
**Edit: Follow-Up**
Amtran wanted to do everything again: inspect again, have me send receipts and pictures of the damage again, etc. After all was said and done they offered me a factory refurbished TV. I pointed out that I had bought a new TV that functioned for only two months, and that if I wanted a used TV I would have paid a lot less. They wouldn't budge. So Geek Squad came through for me and offered to replace the TV. They gave me a store credit, and I got a different brand, new. The only problem is that the replacement "consumed" the Geek Squad warranty on the first TV. I think it was $80 when I bought it, so that's $40.00 a month I paid to insure my TV against stupid manufacturing, over and above the cost of the TV. Still, when I got the replacement I did buy the Geek Squad coverage again -- it was the only thing that worked!
With any luck there will be a class-action lawsuit against Amtran at some point to which I can be a party.
