Disappointed ...
The farming part of the story is not where my one star review comes from The idea, how it came together. The challenges, rewards and hardships about farming is excellent. The problem, for me, is with the farm animals. Having one Coyote decimate 200 chickens and ducks without coming up with a solution is downright negligent. The coyote comes back, kills some more, time and again and they finally they throw up a poorly constructed fence and when that doesn't work they shoot and kill the coyote. Here in Vermont there are so many backyard chickens and plenty of farms with chickens and a hell of lot of coyotes, fox and fishers and guess what, people don't run through their yards loading a shotgun and firing away. They take adequate safety precautions beforehand. And by the way, all killing that coyote will accomplish is opening up that territory for another. Seeing the first of their pig, Emma's, piglets (now 300 lbs) being weighted and sent away on the truck for slaughter also wasn't what I was interested in seeing, especially after seeing how in the trailer they were treated more like pets. That's the point I stopped watching so I can't say if my opinion would have changed had I watched it to the end. Update: January 3, 2020: When I posted this review it was solely to provide information (and opinion) to like-minded people. Information I would have liked to have had when deciding whether this was something I'd want to watch. I didn't want or plan for it to be pinned to the top and in any way penalize the farmers/filmmakers from making money. I live in Vermont and know how challenging farming is for most to make ends meet. I've read all the comments and realize that this film has touched many in a positive way.
