Not for Diabetics
I'm diabetic, but was under good control without medication, until I started taking PQQ. I got the PQQ caps with BioPQQ from Life Extension. My A1c test (which measures the average amount of glucose in the blood over a 3-month period) rose from 5.8 to 6.2 after taking PQQ for the final 2 months of the 3 month period measured. I had noticed some insomnia during this period as well, which might be due to the PQQ or to the excess blood glucose. I started doing more self-testing, particularly after meals, to determine the cause of the high glucose and found consistent post-meal spikes above normal ranges for even low-carb meals, so began to suspect the PQQ as the cause. It took 4 days after eliminating PQQ to notice a decline in post-meal glucose spikes. I stayed off PQQ for 3 weeks and have seen normal glucose ranges again. To be sure that PQQ was the culprit, I started PQQ again, took it for 2 days, and self-tested with exactly the same meal I had eaten 2 days previously. Blood glucose spiked considerably with PQQ: Without PQQ, the 1-hour post-meal spike was 156, with a follow-up after 2 hours of 113; with PQQ, the 1-hour spike was 176, with a follow-up 2 hours later of 202. This supplement is really powerful. It seems to interfere with glucose metabolism in my body, and I strongly caution against its use by diabetics or pre-diabetics.
