Why This Brush is Not Effective
Here is the deal with this "straightener." Unlike with a regular hair straightener, the part that gets hot are the metal bristles- or pegs- on the brush. So instead of clamping the hair between two plates, these heated pegs just kind of brush against the hair. To be effective, a straightening tool must do two things: 1) get hot enough and 2) apply enough pressure to actually smooth the curl out of the hair. In terms of temperature, the brush gets sufficiently hot. However, the "bristles" of the brush (the heated pegs) are not close enough together. This means that they do not create enough traction to actually pull the hair straight and smooth out the curl. Imagine trying to iron a wrinkled dress that is hanging (so without an ironing board) by simply gliding a hot iron down the front of the material. It just isn't going to get the job done.
I have fine hair, but a lot of it. It is curly enough that I can't just blow dry it straight, I have to use a straightener if I want it really smooth and not poofy. That said, it straightens very nicely and somewhat quickly with a flat iron. I thought this brush might save me even more time by eliminating the need to section my hair for straightening. I love the idea of this brush and really wanted it to work, but the design of the product just doesn't allow it to be effective. Put your money towards a good flat iron instead.
