New Sodastream Syrup Bottles are a Bad Deal
Update: Not sure how this gets four stars on Amazon's website. This is still just as awful a deal as it was before. Do the math andd you'll find that this costs twice as much as the old syrup. It's now cheaper to just buy cans and bottles again. I tried these "new and improved" bottles of sodastream syrup about a week ago. I didn't think much of it at the time, but when I bought it it was $1 more than the old bottles. All well, not a big deal if the new syrup is actually improved! Spoiler alert.... It's not. ''''' The first thing I noticed about the new syrup is the bottle's cap. With the old bottles of syrup you poured the syrup into its cap up to the fill line, and then you poured that into the 1 liter bottle of carbonated water. The new bottle works just like the old bottle, but now there are three fill lines; .5L, Lightly Sweetened, and Sweet. Nothing wrong with that right!... right? Well, I only have 1 liter bottles, so the .5L fill line doesn't apply to me. So, I went ahead and tried the "Lightly Sweetened" fill line. It tasted like watered down pop, and nothing like the original cola syrup. So, I then tried the "Sweet" fill line. That made it better, but still not as good in my opinion. So far, I'm not impressed with this new syrup. You might be thinking "Maybe it's just you, and maybe others will like the new flavor even better than the old one". Fair enough, and if that was all there was to it I'd agree with you! But, of course you see all the text below and know there's more to it than that! So, I prefer the taste of the original cola syrup sodastream had over this new stuff, but even if I liked the new stuff just as much I still wouldn't buy it again. That's because the new bottles are a very bad deal compared to the original bottles! The old bottles needed 10ml of syrup to make 8oz of soda. The new bottles use 15ml to make 8oz of soda. However, 15ml only makes the Lightly Sweetened soda. To make it taste similar to the original syrup you'll need to use closer to 20ml of the new syrup! That means we're using twice as much syrup with the new bottles! Not only that, but they also give you less syrup per bottle than before! The new bottle only has 14.3oz of syrup, while the original bottle had 16.9oz! Now, all of that maybe wouldn't be a big issue if they charged accordingly, but the new bottles cost $1 MORE than the original bottles! WHAT! If anything it should be less! As far as I can tell the new bottles make less than half the soda as the old bottles (if you use the "sweet" measuring line). That means the new bottles really ought to cost $2.50, not $6! So, I guess the new bottles are "New and Improved". They are indeed "New", but unfortunately they are only "Improved" for Sodastream's profits. I will be stocking up on the old bottles of syrup, and after that changing brands unless Sodastream fixes this.
