I have a 1978 CJ-5. I had purchased the Smittybilt 2798 Jerry Can holder and mounted it on a Smittybilt tire carrier mount. I thought this device was flimsy, but thought it would past muster considering all the great reviews. I guess most don't live where I do, and if you live in an area with nice paved roads, then this would should work fine for you. But this this past weekend, I made my way up to the Flat Tops Wilderness here in Colorado ( a very beautiful area for camping and four wheeling), and the roads/trails are only what I would term moderately rough. Well on my way into the Flat Tops on a very good road, the bracket that holds and locks the can, broke on the Smittybilt Jerry can carrier, and my Jerry can filled with gas bounced off totally unbeknownst to me. Upon arrival at camp and discovering it was gone, I did back-track to try to locate the Jerry can (fillled with 5 gals of hi-test gasoline), but to no avail. Moral of the story, my initial gut reaction that this device was rather flimsy was totally right on. I am out a gas can, and five gallons of gas (and I had not even made it to the side trails. My advice... look further or fabricate your own). Jim
