Failing brilliantly
First off, switching to a female doctor in itself isn't the biggest problem this season. The problem is the casting, the directing, the writing... Everything. They could've saved a fortune on budgeting by just not making sets and backgrounds. They don't show them anyway. Almost every shot is a close up of someone. There are scenes missing. They make a plan to do something and then skip to after it's done. The creativity is so lacking that they use malicious blankets as an enemy. Not a typo. Blankets. Sci fi in general is a great platform to make points of diversity because it can do so subtly. They've thrown subtlety out in favor of annoying pandering, which only creates more of a divide. Jodie Whittaker is not a doctor. Not her fault, but doctors have a natural weirdness about them. You believe they're not human, because they're odd. For switching to a woman, they just cast attractive, through on some stupid clothes, told her to try to be clever and funny, and just to make sure people like you steal David Tennants tagline. BRILLIANT! Regenerate. Make a strong female Timelord that doesn't need to ride on the shoulders of the men before her. Just fix the show, please.
