DANGEROUS! Top door fasteners not secure! Top easily opens when you carry this carrier!!
Negative 10 stars if possible. DANGEROUS!! The top door fasteners do not stay in place, allowing the top door to OPEN when you are carrying the carrier. The problem seems to be the long rotating rods/ pins that are supposed to stay in place... they do not. They slip and rotate when you pull on the top handle (as you must when you are carrying the carrier) and this allows the rods to move to the open position. I noticed this on the trip to the vet, and even discussed this problem with a vet tech who was putting the kittens back into the carrier. We made sure the top door was as secure as can be for the trip home.
Near tragedy on the trip home:
I was carrying two kittens (less weight than a single adult cat) and when I lifted the carrier out of my car by the handle the whole top door came open. The rods/ fasteners had been in the correct position when I put the carrier in the car. At that point the corner of the carrier hit the ground, which jarred open the front door as well! The kittens almost escaped into a busy parking lot. Fortunately they were really relaxed kittens and they did not bolt through either open door, so I had time to secure both doors. After that I carried this carrier in my arms like a box, and did not touch the handle. I can't emphasize how dangerous this carrier is. A carrier is supposed to keep an animal secure, and this carrier fails that test with even light use.
Background info: I have been doing cat rescue for three decades, and have made THOUSANDS of trips with carriers of all types. I am extremely careful to secure all doors, but with this carrier that is impossible. Simply carrying by the top handle causes the closure rods to rotate to an open position. I guess that is why NO OTHER PET CARRIERS USE THIS CLOSURE MECHANISM. This carrier is dangerous and should be recalled. Please do not trust your pet's safety to this carrier.
