I normally LOVE anything that Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward write individually or together, but I had such a hard time relating to Luca, that I found myself continually annoyed by her. Now, I do not suffer from panic attacks regularly, but I do have some serious anxiety, and I know how crushing it is. I just never felt that Luca was that likable, or even remotely relatable. In fact, in some parts, I wanted to slap her. It took me days to get through this, when usually, I finish one of their books in a few hours. I liked the characters of Doc and Griffin, and I absolutely loved Hortencia (great comic relief), but I literally had to force myself to finish this. I think I felt that Luca didn't want to get better, even though Keeland and Ward made it clear that she did. There was just something about her character that was off-putting, and I was glad when the book was over. Maybe it was too personal for me; I don't know for sure. I do know I was really disappointed, and I am sincerely looking forward to their next book, because I truly love Keeland's and Ward's writing and heartfelt stories.
