I'm in love!! UPDATED: please read and respond if having same issue
This was my stepping stone from the Keurig 55 which i owned for one week and liked it so much I then upgraded to this machine 575. The convenience of this machine, and the many different flavored coffee pods that are available is awesome.
I know the pods are a little on the expensive side but i don't care. My feelings are in the long run it ends up cheaper. If I were to go out and purchase bags of all the different flavors i believe it would cost quite a bit more. Then there is the storage problem for all those bags, the mess of the grounds, the grinding of beans, the purchase of filters (cheap I know) but still an added expense.
With the on demand water function i can make instant oatmeal in a mug, roman noodles, and hot chocolate. Throw a tea bag in a mug and choose the hot water function. I no longer have to heat up the tea kettle or wait for the microwave to heat the water.
Also...in regards to the price of the k-cups this particular machine receives all k-cups so far with no problems. I was able to purchase a couple if nice variety packs from big lots which ended up less then 32 cents a cup. Yeah!!!
If there were 10 stars available i would give this machine an 11. I love it!
Eventually i will purchase the carafe but that will have to wait until after the holidays. If you do have a K-Carafe pod it WILL NOT brew without the carafe pot attached to the machine. However, there is a way around that. All you need to do is remove the drip tray. There is a rounded concave shape at the bottom if the carafe that fits into the convex shape at the bottom of the keurig coffee maker. There is a magnet located in the convex shape on the CARAFE. All you need are a couple if small round magnets which get placed into the convex area if the keurig machine. This will allow you to put another vessel to brew carafe size pods. Or you can purchase a my k-carafe that enables you to brew your own favorite coffee. I purchased the housewares brand which as far as I'm concerned were complete crap. They added a chemical plastic smell to my coffee. The smell was so overpowering i didn't attempt to take a drink. But, on the bright side the magnet worked. :)
I found a stainless steel my K-Cup that i am debating on trying but it isnt available in the carafe size.
If you purchase this machine i hope you love it as much as i love mine.
UPDATE: After my initial bragging of this machine sadly i have to change my review. After about 5 cups of coffee and couple brews of tea the machine started putting off a terrible chemical plastic smell that i didnt even want to try and drink. At first i blamed the smell on the my k-cup that i purchased to utilize my own coffee beans. Today I tried the on water demand to make instant oatmeal. It was a new brand then my normal oatmeal so I thought maybe it was the the brand. It tasted and smelled TERRIBLE. Then I decided on a cup of hot tea...the tea was so overbearing with the chemical/plastic smell i had to dump it down the drain. Through research I found this seems to be a common problem with the keurig going all the way back to 2009.
This should not be an issue. I can go to the dollar tree and buy a 10$ coffee maker and not have to drink chemical coffee. Shame on Keurig for not addressing this issue when it has BEEN and issue for several years.
Tonight I have flushed a gallon of vinegar through the tank TWICE... the smell is still there. I also read that the parts may have to air out for up to a week and to be patient. WTH...I didnt buy this coffee maker to be patient...i bought it for convenience AND to be able to make coffee the day I bring it into my home. Another site said to put a few drops if vanilla in the water vessel that the smell of the vanilla will cover up the bad chemical smell...ok...so what about the bad taste how do i cover that up?
i will be contacting amazon to find out what can be done. I am willing to try another machine because I'm in love with the concept of this machine just not in love with drinking/smelling chemicals in ANYTHING i put in my mouth.
Hopefully amazon will replace this keurig with a new one; I will cross my fingers that this machine is just a lemon and i will be back to enjoying all the wonderful things this machine has to offer.
Will keep this post updated.
