Was really excited to get this and installed it today as soon as it came in. After letting the shower run for the directed amount of time, I used Water Works 5-way Water Test Strips to test for pH, Total Alkalinity, Free Chlorine, Total Chlorine and Total Hardness. I tested distilled water for a control, and also tested tap water, water from my Brita pitcher and the water from the Aquasana AQ-4105. Distilled water came back as expected with neutral readings. Tap water came back as Very High in Total Hardness, Total Alkalinity and pH. The Brita pitcher reduced all of those to the Low or OK range. The Aquasana did NOTHING. The readings came back exactly the same as the tap water. I repeated the tests 3 times and got the same results each time. If you're buying this to help with hard water, save your money.
