Extremely disappointed. Usually I do a lot of research before buying baby books for my Godson, but as soon as I saw these, I assumed they would be the same quality as the movie and bought them immediately. These books are absolute trash. As a male role model in my Godson's life, it's important to me to give him clear and healthy messages about his emotions. The Anger book reeks of toxic masculinity, it berates the reader for getting "touchy-feely", basically shaming children for being emotional, which has zero to do with what anger actually is, but is instead an *unhealthy* way of responding *to* anger. The fear book does nothing to walk a child through the process of being afraid, and instead gives the child a laundry list of things to be afraid of (including death) and then just ends. The disgust book is sexist. Toxic Masculinity Character, oops I mean Anger, pops up at the end of Sadness to berate her for feeling sad "You've got to be kidding me!" he says. Which I think is supposed to be played off as some sort of joke? "Oh haha let's make the male character harass the female character for being upset." The Joy book is even confusing on it's own. I don't think it's clear that these characters represent emotions, as they are described as "friends and family" in the Joy book, which makes their behavior even more inappropriate. I'm sending this back, though honestly it belongs in the trash.
