Danger, do not purchase this item if you love your dog
First off, for my credentials. I am a Golden Retriever and Black Lab breeder and have been breeding and showing dogs for over 30 years.
In the show circuit, heavy duty dog crates are absolutely required due to the amount of use that they see. The industry standard back in the day was that good quality dog crates could only be had from 2 suppliers, General Cage and Midwest. Both of these manufacturers produced a superior quality product that you could rely upon to house your pet or show dog for that matter. I still have 20 year old Midwest crates that are in use today. Unfortunately as the years have progressed, General Cage has dropped out leaving only Midwest as the only supplier of supposedly "premium" dog crates.
I have purchased these crates on 3 different occasions and each time experienced inferior quality product.
PAY ATTENTION MIDWEST QUALITY ASSURANCE...
The "hinge" technology now used by Midwest is such that the loops formed with the crate wire bind with the 90 degree bend of the gate wire which causes the loops to spread open causing the wire to break or the gate to fall off from the crate allowing the dog to get out of the crate.
Golden Retrievers/ Labradors are big teddy bears and not aggressive escape artists, so do not blame the breed for the poor quality of the crate.
If it were possible to return these crates, I would definitely do so in a heartbeat, however there are no other manufacturers out there to buy from.
If anyone would like photos of this problem please post a reply and we'll go from there.
