Dangerous product!
I can't believe this product is still on the market! There should be a "0" star option! I happened across this page while searching for a new sleep sack and felt compelled to warn other parents of my experience! I actually complained to the CPSC and had a CSPC investigator come to my house about it after my experience in 2011. I started using this with my son when he was a few weeks old and weighed over 8Lb so was well within the size guidelines for the product. He was able to break out of a traditional swaddle with a blanket but still needed the comfort and security of a swaddle to sleep. I was going to buy a woombie but saw this at BRU and decided to try it due to the much better price tag. The first night was fine. The second and third nights he was able to wiggle his hand through the opening to suck his fist but was OK. The next nap I found him crying after getting his arm up through the hole and stuck up along his head, with the neck opening pulling tightly across his throat (tight enough to leave a red mark!). I stupidly (incredibly stupidly, in retrospect!!) tried it one more time and was awakened that night to sounds of him struggling and found him with the swaddle pod pulled up over his face and head. Every medical and safety authority tells you not to let babies sleep with loose blankets because even thin ones can hinder breathing and have been linked to SIDS. The neck opening on the swaddle pod is FAR too large for a newborn and makes it easy for the baby to get arms stuck or pull the material up over its face/head. I ended up being given a woombie and that design is far safer. The material is more snug fitting and harder to stretch so it contains little arms better, and the neck opening is much smaller so that it cannot be pulled over the face or allow an arm to escape and pull the opening across the neck. There is also a snap closure to ensure it stays secure. I allowed the CPSC agent to take my swaddle pod or I would take a side by side photo to show the differences between that product and this one. Perhaps if you have a HUGE infant with an enormous head this product would be safe but why take the chance? Spend a little more on the woombie or try a velcro type swaddle like the miracle blanket. I swear that I am not associated with the woombie product or any other baby products at all! I am a mom of 3 "houdini babies" who is very lucky her baby was not seriously injured by this product. While I like the idea of this type of product this SPECIFIC product has a dangerous design flow and it nearly strangled and smothered my newborn! By the way, after my incident and before reporting the the CPSC I did some google searches and did find several other reports of similar experiences so I do not think mine was a fluke. If you chose to use this product, please check on our baby frequently and be very careful.
