Although a mattress with a pillow top or memory foam was enticing - my back and in-store trials pointed to the firm. Another thing I liked was the 25 yr warranty. This is not a pillow top and while it has memory foam it is not readily apparent. The dimples on the top fabric help keep things cool. Over a year later, my back thanks me. Excellent investment. Wife approves. She even bought one for her mom. If you want a firm quality mattress with a luxurious feel this one will not disappoint. Edit: update I am disappointed to report that this mattress has developed depressions where each person sleeps after 2 years. I am 200+lb and my wife is 135lb. My depression is obviously more prevalent. You cannot flip the mattress - only rotate. I kept the depressions a secret from my wife and rotated the mattress. The next night my wife commented that the bed felt different. Overall there is still firmness and my back is good. But with depressions there is then that big hump in the middle between you and your significant other. I'm most disappointed that a 25 yr warranty mattress has impressions at 2 years. Some research on the web has confirmed that the company is sly about getting around resolving this with customers experiencing the same. So the warranty means nothing. Also, do not step on the box spring! There are no springs. The metal will bend.
