They are crayons. I attached a picture to show the lines they make based on how hard you push down. The lighter marks look exactly the same as a crayon would. The darker marks look thicker but they smear if you run your finger across them. Also, pushing harder to make a darker line uses a lot of the wax. I included a picture that shows how far it went down from only drawing a few lines. I'm returning them.
