Not what I was expecting.
When I read all of the positive reviews and lack of negative reviews for this book, I thought why not, I'll try it out. It claimed to teach you how to love yourself unconditionally, which for me is a big deal since I've struggled with self-esteem my whole life. Instead it was filled with complete and utter nonsense, which the author tries to make sound deep by writing it lyrically, but really, it just left me feeling weirded out and uncomfortable. Things like becoming one with the elements (earth, wind, water, and fire), and telling you over and over again that you can become a warrior goddess. Now, I bought this book on my phone app, and nowhere did it mention that it was #1 on the Shamanism's best seller list, so if I knew that I would never have bought this book. I'm not trying to put down Shamanism, but you can imagine my surprise when I started reading this book and I know nothing about Shamanism! I was expecting more scientific help, so when the author started saying things like, "One beautiful way to honor your ancestors is to create an ancestral altar. . . . Sit at this altar for a few minutes today, and listen to what guidance or wisdom comes through," yeah, it made me uncomfortable and kind of creeped out, to be honest. Another example, under Heart Opening Practice: "Spend some time massaging your breasts and feeling them as an extension of your heart." I feel like this book could have been so much better if the author wasn't so mystical when she went about explaining things. There might have been some good ideas in the book, but I'd never know because the writing style was weird for me. It didn't help me with my self-esteem at all, but if you believe in Shamanism then try it out I guess. Maybe those who know more about Shamanism will understand more of what the author is saying. Also, I guess the moral of the story is don't use Amazon's app to purchase products, because there is so much information left out about the product.
