DOESN’T WORK IN TIME OF NEED
This is the worst product I could have ever spent my money on. My dog is an English setter who LOVES to run and has made the great escape from my house before - hence the desire for a GPS. It doesn’t happen often, but once she’s out, she’s not easy to track down. Aside from this being my third whistle, because the prongs on the back of the first two broke off and the GPS wouldn’t stay clipped on, the biggest issue is it literally just does not work. Christmas evening my dog jumped out of the car before we could grab her collar and absolutely took off running. No hope of catching her. I opened the Whistle app (so relieved! GPS! We’ll find her quick!) - and it updates *one time* to say she’s 0.5 miles away. We get to the mentioned location, she’s not there. Not surprising since she’s so fast. I go to refresh her location and.... nothing. NOTHING. HER GPS DID NOT CONNECT AGAIN FOR ANOTHER TWO HOURS. We searched for hours. Well into it getting dark. Logged onto Whistle’s website to make sure our area had GPS coverage. Nothing. “We’re having trouble connecting to Valla’s Whistle.” ??? REALLY? The one time she gets out, you can’t find her signal at all? You can track her activity fine while she’s in WiFi range, but this is literally a GPS COLLAR. Finally thanks to NextDoor and her microchip, she was found covered in needles by a kind neighbor, but not before she blew out her back paw. She’s currently on bed rest. We would have found her sooner had she been wearing her original collar with my name and phone number on it, but we swapped to the collar sold by Whistle to keep the tracker on since it kept falling off the clip it came with for her original collar. She would have been brought home SO MUCH FASTER had we just left her original collar on and not spent the money on Whistle (the woman who had her had to track our number down via the microchip). It could have been so much worse. I at first felt so much relief thinking we’d find her easily thanks to Whistle, and instead all I did was keep trying to hit “update location” over and over for hours with no luck until half an hour after she was back home in wifi range. Don’t bother wasting your time or money. Whistle won’t do jack when it comes down to it.
