What a waste
-- After 45 days of use -- Before making the expensive commitment to change over to this system, I HIGHLY suggest you first use crystal litter in your normal litter box to see if this is a viable option for your cat. The operation of the machine itself is fine. I have had no issues with the automation. The crystal litter is an entirely different story. I have attached photos of the "crystal urine sludge" that I consistently get. The crystals are supposed to absorb all the moisture and last much longer than other traditional litter types. This is just a flat out lie. I have done everything "just right" (moisture free area with air flow, only used the supplied crystals, occasionally stirred crystals to aid in absorption). It just doesn't work. Plain & simple. I found myself replacing the trays on a WEEKLY basis rather than the MONTHLY sales pitch. Through trial and error I decided to leave the existing tray to continue to collect feces in the trap section, and manually scooped out and replaced the urine-soaked crystals after 5-7 days. Does this sound like a SCOOP FREE method to you? The smell is horrendous, as you can imagine urine soup would smell. Aside from this issue, feces does get caught behind the rake on occasion. Additionally if your cat is "high urinator" this may not be right for you. I purchased the ultra with the hood and he still pees outside of the box. Additionally, when I does come time to switch out trays, it's not as easy as advertised. Crystals that have been trapped on the edges of the machine fall out everywhere when you lift the cover. Much to my dismay and frustration, this litter box system has not been the successful solution that I had hoped for. Save yourself some heartache and cash and try out crystal litter first.
