Two parts socio-racial-political-gender-lgbt screed, one part documentary...
I suppose in my naivety, I assumed this would be an actual documentary about STDS9, a show I’ve always liked. Until now. While I enjoyed the conversations with many of the cast members, what it really turned into was what Ira Steven Behr would have done with the show had he had the chance. You may love shows about SJW philosophies, aggressive feminism, the forced acceptance of lgbt dogma, and the implicit or explicit racism of white men, especially those named Trump. If so, you will love this “documentary.” Though, honestly, none of those things appeal to me so I really can’t say for sure. I liked ST-TNG, DS9, and Voyager. I liked many of the characters because of their ability to play their roles well. I didn’t care what color or gender or race they were. I didn’t care if they were playing humans or not. I didn’t even care if they were the good guys or bad guys or any other 283,103 gender combinations. I liked them because they were good actors. Now, after watching this doc, I guess I should have made my decision based on those things instead? I’m not a fan of modern television or movies because so often a political ideology now comes before production values. We just can’t make good entertainment any more. Well, we could. We just don’t, and won’t. Political correctness belongs in entertainment as much as a Weight Watchers booth belongs at a state fair. I was half way through watching the DS9 series when I started this documentary, and I made the mistake of eating while I was watching it. But now knowing what they “really” wanted to do with DS9, I’m not sure I can finish the series.
Why can’t we just make good shows anymore? Why can’t we judge the quality of an actor or actress based on their ability (wait for it) to act? I know the answer to these questions, and if you do as well you know I’d never get this review accepted if I provided them. There are only a few videos I’ve purchased and discarded. This will be one of them. I wish this doc was as good as I had hoped it would be.
