Badly written fan fiction
The most depressing issue with the Rings of the Power is that Amazon spent so much money on it - and failed so badly at it. This will probably convince other production companies to avoid large investments in the fantasy genre, which is sad. The fantasy genre isn't the problem here.
The problem is that Amazon bought the rights to the appendices of the most popular fantasy series ever written (based on sales of the original books in many different translations) - and hired show runners with no experience making successful, large-scale productions. And then these show-runners (or other Amazon executives) chose writers of obviously poor quality - as shown by the writing on display in this series.
These particular showrunners and writers chose to drastically change the source material that was available (greatly changing and breaking the lore of Tolkien) instead of simply filling in the blanks where nothing was written. Filling in the blanks and staying true to Tolkien was the promise they made. They lied.
The extreme timeline compression, the removal of key events, and the addition of new events that could not possibly have happened in the original Tolkien lore - all combine to make this a poorly planned activity. Why pay the money for the Tolkien name if you are going to ignore/rewrite/drastically alter key points in the Tolkien lore? For this much money - why not just create your own, new, fantasy universe and write the show you wanted to write? Why take the Tolkien creation and break it badly to try to make it fit your story?
If you ever read Tolkien's books - and liked them - then stay away from this series.
if you only watched the moves - and liked them - then stay away from this series.
If you've never experienced Lord of the Rings before and really don't care about its history - and you just want to check out a fantasy show for the fun of it - then also - stay away from this series! Go watch another fantasy show - at random - and you will find better writing!
