We purchased this for our 5 year old son for Christmas. We gave it to him Christmas Eve. He has had a Kindle of some sort since he was 3 years old and has always been really great with them. We had to buy a new one because some of the newer apps would not work on the older Kindle. We figured with the Warranty that it was a no brainer. Unfortunately, we are on on 3rd Kindle and this one stopped working 2 days after we got it. That means in less than 2 months, we've been through THREE Kindles - through no fault of our own. The problem is the SD Card slot, and its a BIG Problem. The card slot has been overheating and melting the outside of the Kindle. Its also extremely hot to the touch. If the blue cover had not been on the Kindle, I am sure my son would have been burned. We've reported this problem to Amazon and they just keep replacing the Kindle (with refurbished ones - the original was brand new). We are extremely disgusted at this point. The last time I called in regards to this issue, the woman on the phone "guaranteed" me it wouldn't happen again. Aside from the obvious fire risk, we've had the same issues with the card that everyone else is reporting (it fails to recognize games on the card until you refresh the storage). Additionally, each time the Kindle stops working, it takes almost a week for Amazon to issue a replacement. My son does not understand and has obviously been upset.
