TWO Fatal Flaws: False Advertising, TERRIBLE customer service.... yet, a quality pen!
I am a product designer and graphic designer, so software design tools and traditional design tools are my daily drivers. I was looking for a wider, bolder ink pen than the .7mm Pilots and .7mm Uniballs I use. These Z-grips were advertised at 1.0mm wide on the package and description, so I jumped on them. NOT so!
Apparently, no one has ever measured the actual widths of the lines produced by various pens, so I did. I tested the Z-grip 1.0mm against my Pilot G2 .7mm black ink pens and Uniball Signo .7mm pens. While NONE of them ever actually wrote to the dimensions specified. the Z-grip was the thinnest of all coming out nowhere near 1.0mm wide. See photos comparing line widths next to a precision metal mm ruler.
Now I realized that paper type, pen pressure, room temperature, relative humidity all play a factor in determining line width. I have tested these 3 pens on different bond papers, artist paper, Strathmore paper, pad paper etc. all under the same conditions, pen pressure, line length and have consistently found the Z-grip 1.0mm pen to be .5mm or less!
I even measured the roller ball of the 1.00mm with a micrometer and again, not even close to 1.0mm.
I pointed this out to Zebra Pens via their website contact email form TWICE and never received a response. I call the customer service number on the website and the phone rang and rang and rang....Never answered.
I even sent another website email indicating I would post a negative review if no response received...so here we are.
Aside from the ink width issue, the pens write smoothly, fairly consistently and are a good value.
