New issue - manufacturing flaw?
I’ve ordered 80-pod batches of these Llave pods a number of times - in fact, 7 times. I have 3 Nespresso machines (office at work, office at home and in kitchen) all of which are less than 1 year old (I replaced all three last year), and I’ve been a Nespresso user for over 13 years. In fact I’m a self-ordained Nespresso-champion. We are a family of coffee drinkers... we keep sleeves of Nespresso on hand and at times, we will have overlap in supply; this time I received these Llave pods before we finished the Llave supply left from the last shipment. And this where my review comes in.
I would otherwise give this product a five star rating. Unfortunately this batch is resulting in abnormal results.
Of the two sleeves I have opened, I have attempted to make 10 cups. Only 2 actually worked in as much as to produce a few drips of expresso. All the others did not produce ANY expresso.
Upon inspection of each of the pods that failed to produce any expresso, each had the same problem. The face from which the expresso is extracted had absolutely no holes. Normally, the foil is pressed against the extraction screen, and once the pressure builds enough, it pushes hard enough to force the face to open in multiple spots and the expresso flows out the spot and into your cup as a nectar even the gods would appreciate.
I descale the machines every six months and I have tried pulling cups with this shipment, on each of my 2 machines at home (can’t go into the office what with our stay-at-home order in San Francisco)...and the results are not machine-specific.
If I pull a cup with Nespresso pods, no problems.
If I pull a cup with the Llave pods from my LAST shipment, NO PROBLEMS.
So with that I have to conclude that they tweaked either the manufacturing process, the pod materials, or both. Unfortunately they don’t work anymore and I will be stopping my shipments until I have some evidence that this has been addressed.
As I read thru other reviews looking for anyone with these issues, I did notice a trend of reviews highlighting that the machine had to be started numerous times to get a normal 110ml lungo or 40ml expresso pull. Not enough holes = lower produced volume?
Anyhow, I would not recommend that anyone take the risk of ordering these, until this issue is fixed, unless you have Prime and are willing to send your order back if you experience the same issues.
