3 Time Loser - Do Not Buy
This reasonable priced (on a mark down) and basic unit had all I wanted in a vacuum sealing machine and I thought that FoodSaver brand was supposed to be the best. It has a small footprint so that it can sit out on my kitchen counter all the time instead of being tucked away somewhere. It has an easily cleaned removable drip tray. It has an accessory port so that it can be used to seal reusable zipper-type vacuum bags and jars. It vacuums and seals automatically or it simply seals (great for re-sealing bagged items that are in their original bags, such as frozen veggies and cereal). Note that this machine is meant for light home kitchen use. You have to let it cool down a minimum of 20 seconds between uses. However, all of this is irrelevant because this FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer machine is so poorly designed that each of three successive units failed after only a handful of uses. With all three units the gray plastic ring in the accessory port developed a crack and then the unit leaked air and would not pull a vacuum. After contacting FoodSaver when the first one broke I was told that this is not a user replaceable item and that I should return the unit to Amazon. So I tried 3 of these units in a row before I gave up trying. Each one broke and my only conclusion is that either the design is defective or the part is defective. I do not know if it was the use of bags sealed by the unit or if it was the use of accessory port or both that caused this part to fail because I used both. All I know is that these units are not worth buying at any price...I am scratching my head as to why there are so many good reviews. I am very disappointed that this machine failed. I've a big collection of FoodSaver brand bags that I bought to use along with it and now I need to buy a different and probably much more expensive unit.
