Puh-lease!!
Is it too much to ask that at least a modicum of research be done before one starts tapping away at the keyboard? There was no "home guard" in the U.S. during WW 2. Women didn't drill with rifles nightly or ever. The least the author could have done was have Ellie work in a Defense plant. Thousands of women did and their contribution to the war effort was Absolutely crucial. And now we come to Chloe. Here is a person who had experienced war first hand courtesy of the Luftwaffe and yet seems to be absolutely clueless about the dangers in France. Then asks whats-his-name if he can keep her safe. Really? Whose going to protect her from her imbecilic self? Now there's Danni. Always a way to flout the rules concerning covering the Front. Get creative? Only if you want your credentials lifted and sent packing. There were quite a few female war correspondents who were gutsy and successful. I'm sure that they knew that openly flaunting the rules would result in their credentials being lifted and they would be replaced by a ticket home. Sorry, could only get 25% into the book and that to call it quits. There is too much good literature out there to waste time on this stuff.
